Due to the bad weather on the 28th of Feb, Club Camp has been postponed to the 14 and 15th of March.
As per the notice below, all details are still the same - except for the dates.

Club Camp is on this weekend. We'll be camping on Saturday night at Awhitu Regional Park. Some of the team will be sailing across from Clarks Beach Yacht Club, other will be driving over. We'll have the patrol boats with us, so plenty of scope for lots of fun!

Yachting New Zealand used our facilities to run the 'Have a Go' sailing programme for the local schools. We had quite a few kids participating in this programme, with lots of smiling faces at the end of each day!

NEW YEAR SAILING REGATTA

The Clarks Beach Sailing Regatta is on again on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of January. Download the details and forms here. The program for the three days of sailing is as follows:

1st of Jan
3pm briefing, followed by a 4pm race start on the water. This is a fun race and does not count towards the Regatta results. First prize for the fun race for seniors is a bottle of rum and for the juniors a mystery prize.
The evening meal is planned for a shared BBQ, please bring meat and something to share.

2nd of Jan
Registration from 9am. 11am briefing, followed by three or four races.
There will be refreshments, lunches and an evening BBQ available to purchase.

3rd of Jan
Briefing time to be advised, followed by two or three races and a prize giving.
There will be refreshments and lunches available to purchase.

For accomodation - you may camp on the Yacht Club grounds or arrange accomodation at the Clarks Beach Holiday Park adjacent to the Yacht Club.

Entry Fee will be per yacht. Senior $45 and school kids $20, or family for $65 (immediate family with school aged children)

Sunday Sailing - 07 December 2008

Another beautiful sunny day. We've been quite lucky with the sunshine in the weekends. However - there was no wind at the start of the day to start the club sailing. So, what's a kid to do but to have opti-paddle races. Very entertaining for the adults, and the kids got to learn about the currents and how to effectively use a rudder like an oar. By the end of the morning we had 4 Optimists, 2 Sunbursts, 1 Starling and 1 Hartley on the water sailing.

Saturday was a beautiful evening with a nice steady evening breeze for sailing. Enjoyed by all!!
Lisa managed to fall out off the trapeze and went for a quick evening dip. Once wet the fun didn't end there as the kids finished the evening with a mud fight. The adults took a more sensible approach and relaxed for happy hour and a bbq.

The forecast was for gale force winds... but we managed to squeeze in some sailing, complete with a few capsizes and a broken mast for William! William, how did that happen? Care to comment?

The Working Bee

Some of the club members have been busy today with various tasks, ranging from painting and repairs to a good tidy up.

The outside deck is looking all good with a new coat of paint. Ready for the summer BBQs and sausage sizzles to come!
Some extra space has been created in the office overlooking the harbour, so that we can manage those Sunday and evening races. Alexander (one of our junior sailors) has kindly offered to fix and upgrade the office computer so that we can start recording the race results.
The bar has been tidied and the fridge supply checked out.

Open Day - 9 November 2008

The sailing season at Clarks Beach Yacht Club was opened on the 9th of November. The sun decided to shine for us, and the wind was a steady 15 to 20 knots. A perfect day to dust off the boats and test the waters!
The juniors pulled out the Opti's and hosed off the spiders who decided to accumulate in their boats over winter. The seniors brought out their toys and had a good chance to blow out some cobwebs themselves. Of course, the patrol boat was launched, started and took on the task of ensuring everyone was OK.
We finished our day with a sausage sizzle and plenty of enthusiasm for the sailing season ahead!
